According to police, 47-year-old Alexander Gonzalez, who is listed as homeless in his arrest report, approached a woman at a gas station, forcefully took her car keys and struck her with a drill before fleeing the scene with her property.

Another individual who witnessed the robbery attempted to intervene but was also struck on the head with the drill by Gonzalez, causing a laceration, authorities said.

Miami-Dade police officers responded to the scene and detained Gonzalez shortly after the incident, the report stated.

Police said they searched Gonzalez and found the victim’s property and the drill allegedly used in the robbery.

They did not disclose what items Gonzalez allegedly stole from the victim during the incident.

Both victims and a witness positively identified Gonzalez during a show-up, according to the report.

Authorities confirmed that Gonzalez provided a video-recorded confession at the MDPD’s Northwest District Station.

Jail records show he is facing one count each of armed robbery with a weapon and aggravated battery.

As of Tuesday, Gonzalez was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond had not yet been determined.
