MIAMI – A little more than two months after police arrested a Miami man for possessing child sexual abuse material, authorities have arrested his alleged accomplice, police announced Monday.

Miami police say Mara Lujana Blandon Obregon, 50, of Matagalpa, Nicaragua, was taking money from 51-year-old Francisco Ramon Cruz Rodriguez to produce videos of children being sexually abused. She’s now facing charges in the Central American nation.

The victims, police said, were a boy, now 16, identified as a relative of Blandon Obregon, and a girl.

Miami police originally arrested Cruz Rodriguez on July 24 at his Little Havana home. They said they found nearly 500 videos and pictures of child sexual abuse material on his electronic devices.

Authorities said the photos and videos depicted girls and boys who appeared to be as young as 2.

According to an arrest report, detectives found several screenshots showing Cruz Rodriguez on a video call with a girl who was masturbating herself while Cruz Rodriguez appeared to be exposing himself to her.

Police said they were able to identify one of the victims and traced the source of the video call to Blandon Obregon.

Miami police shared the information with Nicaragua National Police, who took Blandon Obregon into custody.

She faces a charge of sexual exploitation and pornography, which could land her in a Nicaraguan prison for five to seven years, police said.

“Crimes that threaten the welfare of our most vulnerable victims will not be tolerated, and we will continue to remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the safety and justice for all,” Miami Police Department Chief Manny Morales said, in part, in a statement.

Cruz Rodriguez remains jailed in the Metro West Detention Center on several felony charges as well as an immigration hold.
