6-year-old killed in shooting at Tamarac condo building

TAMARAC, Fla. – A 6-year-old boy is dead after a shooting at a Tamarac condominium building Monday afternoon, authorities said.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies were sent to the Sun Vista Gardens complex in the 5600 block of Rock Island Road at around 3:30 p.m.

Initial reports were that the boy may have shot himself.

“On scene, deputies located a child that had been shot. The child was pronounced deceased on scene,” a BSO spokesperson said in a news release. “Detectives with BSO’s Crime Scene and Homicide Units are responding to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.”

Authorities had not yet confirmed information regarding the child’s identity as of late Monday afternoon. They have not yet confirmed whether the shooting was accidental.

Video taken by a Local 10 News photojournalist showed deputies putting a distraught woman into the back of a squad car. She was not handcuffed.

It’s not yet clear whether anyone will be arrested or charged. BSO officials were expected to provide additional updates later Monday evening.
