Robbery detectives’ pursuit ends after crash, shooting in Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A wounded man remained hospitalized early Friday morning in Miami-Dade County after a police pursuit ended with a car crash and a shooting.

The pursuit started after Miami-Dade detectives ordered a driver to stop late Thursday night at Northwest 38 Place and 165 Street, and the driver refused. The driver then crashed while trying to get away from police officers at Northwest 38 Avenue and 161 Street.

According to Detective Angel Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, the driver ran away. Police officers ran after him and arrested him nearby. Rodriguez reported there was a shooting at the scene of the crash.

“The civilian driver of the vehicle involved shot at one of the subjects as the individual approached him with a firearm,” Rodriguez wrote in a statement. “This subject, adult male, sustained a gunshot wound to one of his arms.”

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel responded and took the wounded man to Aventura Hospital. According to Rodriguez, the man’s condition was stable.

“A juvenile male was among the individuals detained,” Rodriguez wrote.
