Police: Man arrested after striking victim in wheelchair with vehicle in northwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 38-year-old man was arrested Wednesday, following a Sept. 8 hit-and-run crash in northwest Miami-Dade.

According to his arrest report, Yulizan Ochoa, of Miami, struck a man in a wheelchair with his vehicle around 5:40 p.m. Sept. 8 in the area of Northwest 186th Street and 68th Avenue, and then fled the scene.

Miami-Dade police said the victim had been trying to cross the street at the time and Ochoa never stopped to help after striking the victim.

The victim was transported to a hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. He suffered a left fractured hip and a broken left femur.

According to the arrest report, a witness took a photo of Ochoa’s vehicle and license plate.

Detectives made contact with Ochoa on Wednesday. His statement to detectives was redacted from the publicly released report.

He was arrested on one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury.

As of Thursday morning, Ochoa, a Cuban national, was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $15,000 bond.
