Police arrest man accused of throwing Molotov cocktails at Hollywood Beach business

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Police have arrested a suspect in connection with multiple attempted arson incidents at a business on Hollywood Beach, authorities confirmed Thursday.

According to investigators, Chiu Lee Moy, 58, was taken into custody on Wednesday and faces two counts each of second-degree arson and possessing and discharging a destructive device.

Detectives first responded to the Broadwalk Restaurant & Grill, located at 1400 N. Surf Road, when a glass Bud Light bottle was ignited and thrown at the business around 4:45 a.m. on June 24.

Surveillance footage captured the incident, but police said that the Molotov cocktail landed near the back door of the business, causing no injuries or structural damage.

On Aug. 13, officers responded to the same location for another incident involving a Molotov cocktail thrown at the back of the building around 4:55 a.m. They reported no injuries or property damage in that case as well.

Hollywood police confirmed Moy was arrested at his home on Johnson Street, and his vehicle was seized pending a search warrant.

“When it happened we were concerned that he might come inside,” said Broadwalk Restaurant employee Kelly Henderson. “I’m glad he’s caught.”

Moy appeared before a judge Thursday, where his bond was set at $90,000.

The judge also ordered Moy to wear a GPS monitor and prohibited him from possessing firearms, weapons, ammunition or any items that could be used as an accelerant.

Court records show Moy has prior traffic infractions but no history of violent criminal activity. His attorney stated in court Thursday that he has been living in Hollywood for decades.

Local 10 News visited the address listed for Moy on Thursday afternoon, which is located less than a mile from the restaurant, but no one at the home was willing to speak.

A motive for both incidents remains unclear.
