Man in custody after shooting nephew in Miami Gardens, police say

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Police are investigating a domestic-related shooting in Miami Gardens on Tuesday morning that they said resulted in a male victim being airlifted to a local hospital and a suspect taken into custody.

Miami Gardens police said officers responded to the 2500 block of Northwest 161st Street after receiving reports of a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds just before 9:30 a.m.

Authorities said the victim and suspect, who are nephew and uncle, got into an argument that escalated when both drew guns, and the suspect fired, striking his nephew.

A Miami Gardens police spokesperson described the victim as a male but did not specify his age. Officials also haven’t elaborated on his condition but confirmed that he was transported to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital.

Police confirmed that the suspect, whose age or identity were not disclosed as of Tuesday morning, has been taken into custody.

Aerial footage from Sky 10 captured police officers at a commercial strip across from the site where the 911 call was first made. Officers spoke with individuals at the scene, canvassing the area as crime scene tape cordoned off the strip mall.

They said the incident remained under investigation as of Tuesday morning.

No other details about the shooting were immediately released.
