COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – Dive teams investigated at least one car submerged in a lake off the Sawgrass Expressway on Tuesday. The vehicle was suspected to be stolen.
Initial reports suggested multiple cars might be in the lake, located off the State Road 7 exit in Coconut Creek.
Dive teams and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies searched various parts of the lake, using radar or sonar equipment.
Authorities on the ground were seen monitoring the situation via computers.
The Coconut Creek Police Department is leading the investigation.
They have confirmed the presence of at least one older model car in the lake. It remains unclear whether the car was stolen or simply abandoned. Tow trucks and heavy machinery were on site.
A key question remains: how did authorities learn about the submerged car in the first place?
