Woman rescued from dangling SUV in Coral Gables after crashing through parking garage wall

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – First responders were at the scene of a vehicle hanging out of a Coral Gables parking garage Monday morning.

It happened at a garage at 6801 Red Road, near Sunset Place and just east of the border between Coral Gables and South Miami.

Video from Sky 10 shows first responders blocking off San Remo Avenue as the white SUV dangled from the edge of the garage.

3 p.m. report:

Coral Gables Fire Department Division Chief Xavier Jones said a woman accidentally hit her accelerator and crashed through the wall of the garage’s third floor, into a tree.

The tree “is absolutely something that produced a miracle,” he said.

“I am pretty sure that she was pretty shaken up but looking at it from the outside she was fairly calm, considering how dramatic this incident was, Jones said.

Jones said Coral Gables and Miami firefighters successfully got the woman out of the vehicle. She was taken to a local hospital as a precaution but is expected to be OK.

A spokesperson for her employer, Baptist Health, told Local 10 News Tuesday that she was “doing well.”

No one else was hurt, he said.
