MIAMI – Police say an 18-year-old Miami man was apologetic after carjacking a woman at gunpoint after trying to carjack another in the city’s Allapattah neighborhood Friday night.

Miami police took the suspect, Edgar Ramirez, into custody on six felony charges a few hours later.

According to police, at around 10:30 p.m., Ramirez first approached a woman getting out of her car in the 2000 block of Northwest 27th Street and told her, “Give me the key, get out of the car.”

“As she walked away in fear for her life, (Ramirez) kept asking for the vehicle’s key, which she had left in the center cupholder area,” an arrest report states.

Authorities said the woman went inside her home to tell her father what happened.

Police said as he went outside and got in his daughter’s car, Ramirez pulled up in another woman’s vehicle and told him, “Tell the young lady I am sorry.”

The report states that he had carjacked that woman at gunpoint as she went to the area to drop off her 18-month-old son at her sister-in-law’s house.

Authorities said he approached her, pointed a pistol at her and demanded her vehicle.

Police said she pleaded with Ramirez to let her get her daughter out of the car first.

After the woman got her daughter out, police said Ramirez pointed a gun at her, her sister-in-law and the two children, demanded they keep their hands up, then fled.

Authorities said they located Ramirez in the 700 block of Northwest 56th Street in Liberty City and took him into custody just after 2:30 a.m.

Ramirez is facing two counts of armed carjacking, four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of resisting an officer without violence.

The Honduran national was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Monday afternoon.
