Deputies: Man runs over son’s mother on purpose, killing her in Pompano Beach

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Three orphans are grieving after their 29-year-old mother was killed on Saturday night in Pompano Beach.

Brenda Hernandez had a son with Edwin Amaya and two kids with Omar Munguia Henrique. The kids witnessed what Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputies described as a premeditated murder.

Detectives believe Amaya, 32, was driving a white Ford F-250 pickup truck when he intentionally struck her twice near South Cypress Road and Southwest Eighth Street.

“He was drunk,” Munguia Henrique said in Spanish adding he had threatened to shoot everyone before he turned the pickup into a weapon.

A witness, who is a neighbor, shared a video that BSO detectives consider evidence in the case. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue took Hernandez to Broward Health North where she died.

Deputies arrested Amaya on South Dixie Highway and correctional deputies booked him on Sunday morning at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale.

Amaya is facing a charge of premeditated murder and is being held without bond.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help Hernandez’s family bring her body back to Honduras.
