Authorities said the girlfriend of 37-year-old Emmanuel Brown told officers that the dispute began when he arrived at a home to drop off their 4-year-old daughter.
Police did not disclose the cause of the argument, but tensions quickly escalated between the couple, according to the report.
During the argument, authorities said Brown grabbed a perfume bottle from the front porch and threw it through the kitchen window, shattering the glass inside the home. The report stated that the noise startled the woman and her two children, who were inside the home at the time.
Although the bottle broke on the kitchen floor, police said no one was injured initially.
Moments later, authorities said the woman’s 15-year-old son stepped outside to confront Brown which spiraled into a fight between the two.
According to the woman’s statement to police, as the two fought, Brown drew a pocket knife and stabbed the teenager in his left palm, causing a deep laceration.
Fearing further violence, police said the woman intervened and managed to stop the fight.
Detectives said Brown fled the scene in a black Chevrolet pickup before officers arrived.
Miami Fire Rescue arrived at the home and treated the male teenager. Paramedics advised that the boy should go to the hospital for possible stitches to his left palm, but his mother declined at the time.
Police said Brown evaded arrest for months. However, following an investigation, authorities were able to track him down just after 4 p.m. Monday, and he was taken into custody.
Jail records show he is facing one count each of shooting or throwing a deadly missile, child abuse with great bodily harm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief.
As of Tuesday, he is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond has not yet been determined.
