BSO: Teen playing with gun arrested after fatally shooting 16-year-old in Wilton Manors

WILTON MANORS, Fla. – Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested a 16-year-old male in connection with an apparent accidental shooting that killed another teenager Monday in Wilton Manors, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

Officers from the Wilton Manors and Fort Lauderdale police departments said they responded to a shooting at a multi-family residence near the 400 block of Northwest 25th Street around 2:30 p.m.

Authorities said upon their arrival, they found 16-year-old Christopher Granados suffering from a gunshot wound.

Granados was rushed to a hospital, where he later died, according to BSO. Authorities also confirmed the shooting was confined to the home and there was no danger to the public.

BSO said their homicide detectives took over the investigation and interviewed several teenage witnesses.

According to detectives, Granados and 16-year-old Herbe Belony were handling guns when one of the weapons went off, hitting Granados.

Deputies said Belony was arrested Monday night and faces one count of manslaughter with a firearm.

Court records show Belony will be held at a juvenile detention center for the next three weeks. His next court hearing is on Oct. 4.
