Woman fears for life after carjacker escapes house arrest

SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. – A woman says she’s fearing for her life after getting an update from police about the man who carjacked her. The suspect has broken free from his ankle monitor and is now on the run.

Glenda Defas, of Sunny Isles Beach, says she got the call from police over the weekend. It was about the suspect in her case, Savalas Cigar.

“(I’m) very scared. Because I can’t sleep, I can’t eat. This is no way to live,” Defas said.

Cigar, 46, stole the car from Defas, and he wouldn’t stop as police chased him down Alton Road in August, authorities said. The car flipped over. Troopers took him into custody and he was put on house arrest.

Defas said she is now living in fear. She was with her brother, Martine, who is deaf, and said she’s scared for both of their safety.

“I can’t continue like this,” Defas said.

If you know where Cigar is, authorities are asking you to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
