DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Two women and a man died after a crash that prompted the Florida Highway Patrol to close Interstate 595 early Saturday morning in Broward County.
FHP troopers and Davie Fire Rescue personnel responded to the “major” crash between a 2017 BMW AG and a 2020 Hyundai Accent shortly before 4:20 a.m., along the eastbound lanes of I-595, west of the exit to Interstate 95 southbound, in Dania Beach.
According to Lt. Indiana Miranda, a spokeswoman for FHP, the 63-year-old man driving the BMW crashed into the back of the Hyundai Accent.
DFR Cpt. Chaplin Justin Flick approached the Hyundai and pronounced both the 27-year-old man who was in the driver’s seat and the 24-year-old woman who was a passenger dead.
DFR personnel took the driver of the BMW and a 19-year-old woman who was a passenger of the BMW to the Broward General Hospital where Dr. Igor Nichiporenko pronounced her dead at 4:55 a.m., according to FHP.
Troopers closed the roadway until 10:20 a.m. According to Miranda, investigators suspect the driver of the BMW “failed to observe” the Hyundai was “traveling at a slower rate of speed,” but the cause of the crash remained under investigation.
The live traffic map reported a stalled vehicle blocked the left express lane of I-95 northbound near the Airport Expressway at about 9:55 a.m., in Miami-Dade County. For more updates from the traffic team, visit this page.
