HIALEAH, Fla. – Authorities booked a Palm Beach County man into the Miami-Dade jail Thursday in connection with an armed carjacking over the summer in Hialeah.

Police said Jose Carlos Hernandez Martinez, 19, held a knife to the victim’s throat after she finished pumping gas.

According to an arrest warrant, the crime happened just before 9:45 p.m. on July 29 at the Victoria gas station at 385 Hialeah Drive.

Hialeah police said that as the woman got back into her 2019 Honda HR-V and started to close the door, Hernandez Martinez held it open, took out a knife, held it close to her neck and demanded she get out.

Police said when she didn’t immediately comply, Hernandez Martinez grabbed her by the arm and forced her out, driving off in the SUV.

About two hours later, Palm Beach deputies located the vehicle and Hernandez Martinez in the Tavares Cove mobile home park near West Palm Beach, where he resides, and took him into custody on stolen vehicle charges, police said.

He was extradited to Miami-Dade County to face an armed carjacking charge Thursday.

Hernandez Martinez, identified in an arrest report as a Honduran national, was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Friday afternoon.
