Man found engulfed in flames near Sunrise Walgreens

SUNRISE, Fla. – Authorities are investigating after they said a man died after being found engulfed in flames near a Walgreens in Sunrise Thursday morning.

Officers responded to the scene at the corner of University Drive and Oakland Park Boulevard, where they discovered the victim on fire. Although they managed to extinguish the flames, they confirmed the man did not survive.

Local 10 News was at the scene where a blue tarp was placed over the victim’s body.

Video footage from Sky 10 footage flew over the scene where there were traffic disruptions around the busy shopping center as the investigation continues.

Investigators were seen canvassing local businesses for surveillance video that may have captured the incident. Some business owners reported seeing smoke but initially dismissed it due to nearby construction.

The medical examiner has removed the victim’s body, and authorities are working to identify him and understand the circumstances leading to the fire.

Police have not yet disclosed the man’s age or identity.
