FWC: Boater arrested after chopper intervenes as it speeds toward swimmers

MARATHON, Fla. – A dangerous scene was caught on camera in the Florida Keys over the weekend.

According to authorities, a charity swim was happening off marathon Saturday, when a Florida Fish and Wildlife helicopter pilot saw a boat speeding towards hundreds of swimmers.

Officers said the boater ignored commands to stop, so the pilot brought the chopper down to 20 feet above the water and hovered in front of the boat before it finally stopped.

Officers said 55-year-old Thomas Michael Reichert was arrested for boating under the influence and was also caught with illegal lobster tails.
