Police: Video shows man battering girlfriend’s parents after refusing to walk family’s dog

DAVIE, Fla. – A violent altercation caught on Ring surveillance footage led to the arrest of a 64-year-old man accused of attacking his girlfriend’s elderly parents after he refused to walk the family dog, according to police.

The incident occurred in a Davie home near home near the 11000 block of North Harmony Lake Circle in Davie at around 7 p.m. Sunday.

The victims, both nearly 80 years old, told police that Glenn Karant, who lived with them and their daughter, became enraged when they repeatedly asked him to take their dog for a walk.

Instead, Karant ignored them, choosing to watch TV, which escalated into violence, according to police.

Surveillance footage captured the moment Karant appeared to snatch a cane from the 79-year-old father, causing him to fall to the floor.

When his wife attempted to retrieve the cane, the Ring video shows Karant kicking her in the stomach, knocking her onto a couch, according to investigators. The victim’s wife was then seen fighting back, striking Karant with a shoe while shouting at him in Mandarin, authorities said.

Davie police said they arrested Karant following the incident, and he appeared in Broward County court on Monday, facing two counts of battery on a person 65 years or older.

Judge Michele McCaul Ricca found probable cause for the charges.

During the court hearing, Karant, who was represented by a public defender, claimed he was the victim, stating that he called the police after being attacked by the couple.

His attorney argued that the video shown to law enforcement captured only part of the incident, during which Karant was defending himself. The defense suggested that the initial confrontation, when Karant was allegedly attacked by the victims, was not recorded.

However, the couple’s daughter, who was not present during the incident, provided authorities with the full video, which began recording when motion was detected.

Prosecutors argued that Karant’s actions were not justified, noting that this was not his first encounter with the law. Court records show he has a prior arrest for violating a domestic violence injunction and a 2019 trespassing charge.

Despite not being seriously injured, the couple told Local 10′s Roy Ramos they fear that Karant may return.

Karant has since posted a $10,000 bond and has been ordered to stay away from the victims’ home.
