Woman accused of abusing daughter in Hialeah awaits extradition after arrest in Miramar

Mother faces child abuse, neglect charges

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Surveillance video shows a woman who told police officers she was holding a girl who had scrapes on her head after falling from a moving car in Miami-Dade County when a woman claiming to be the girl’s mother snatched her away and sped away on Thursday, according to police officers.

Detectives later identified the girl as one-year-old Cassidy and her 29-year-old mother as Tasshay Mills, who was on hold at the Broward County main jail on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale awaiting extradition over child abuse and neglect charges in Miami-Dade, records show.

After Cassidy fell out of the car at about 8:30 p.m., on Thursday, near Northwest 37 Avenue and 54 Street, in Hialeah, police officers started to search a red 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a “Missing Child Alert” on Friday morning.

According to the Hialeah Police Department, law enforcement found Cassidy in Opa-locka and she and a sibling were with the Florida Department of Children and Families. Records show Miramar police officers arrested Mills in Miramar and Broward Sheriff’s Office correctional deputies booked her on Friday.
