Man found dead in Middle River canal in Sunrise

SUNRISE, Fla. – A dead man was floating near a small motorboat in the Middle River canal on Saturday morning in Sunrise.

Police officers and fire rescue personnel responded to an “open water drowning” shortly before 10:25 a.m., behind a house along Northwest 113 Avenue, between 38 Place and 39 Street.

According to the Sunrise Police Department, detectives were investigating the man’s death on Saturday afternoon.

A yellow wheelbarrow was next to a cordless trimmer on the lawn feet away from the canal. There was also crime scene tape in front of the house and police officers in blue and military green uniforms standing near their parked cars.

Neighbors said the body appeared to be a man they know as “Dave,” but police officers had yet to confirm the report. Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 to remain anonymous.
