Crime scene disrupts small nightlife scene

SUNRISE, Fla. – Homicide detectives were investigating a fatal shooting early Saturday morning in Sunrise. The crime scene was near restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. Long sheets of blue plastic blocked a small area in a parking lot.

The blocked area was near a white fence facing a golf course, a blue “3801-3701″ sign, and a path leading to the main entrance of Hooters, along North University Drive at Northwest 39 Street.

According to the Sunrise Police Department, a male had suffered a gunshot wound and died. Police officers responded at about 2:30 a.m.

The crime scene tape extended in front of Hooters, which had closed late Friday night, and into the Springtree Country Club Plaza, at 3801 North University Drive, the home of the Goldfinger, a nightclub with exotic dancers that usually closes at 4 a.m.

Across the street, and out of the crime scene tape perimeter, was La Perrada Company, a Colombian fast-food restaurant that opens through midnight. The restaurant’s neighbor is The Velvet Lounge & Cafe, or VL, a nightclub that usually closes at 3 a.m.

Sunrise detectives were in search of witnesses and they asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 to remain anonymous.
