MIAMI – Three people have been arrested following a fatal gang-related shootout that occurred over the summer in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood, authorities confirmed.
Symarri Williams, of Miami Gardens, and Sheldred Johnson, of Miami, both 19 years old, along with 21-year-old Manuel Rivera of Miami all appeared before a Miami-Dade judge on Friday.
They each face charges of second-degree murder.
According to the warrants, officers responded to the area of Northwest Second Avenue and 52nd Street just after 6:45 p.m. on July 1 after receiving two ShotSpotter alerts for a total of 30 rounds of gunfire.
Police said officers found one shooting victim, 24-year-old Andre Mitchell, lying in the swale beside a blue Nissan Altima and another man, identified as Alfred Vickers II, also 24, nearby suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Both were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where Mitchell died.
Police said Vickers survived his injuries and has since been released from the hospital.
According to the warrants, the victims and a third man, Dontae Davidson, were inside the Altima when a dark-colored Hyundai Genesis drove slowly past them.
Police said as the rear driver’s side door of the Genesis opened, Mitchell got out of the Nissan and open fired at the Genesis.
Surveillance video shows a dark-colored BMW SUV then driving by and someone inside firing at the Nissan, authorities said.
According to the warrants, a white Kia K5 was also seen parking on the north side of the street before three people got out and fired in the victims’ direction.
Detectives say they eventually learned that the Kia had been rented by a 21-year-old man named Ja’twan Phillips, who is from Miami Gardens and is a member of “Slice Gang,” which is a rival gang to Mitchell’s “Boss Life” gang.
According to one warrant, a cell site warrant revealed that Johnson’s phone traveled in the same path of the Kia “before, during and after the homicide.”
Another warrant stated that Williams was arrested on July 18 for an unrelated case while in possession of a Glock firearm. Police said it was later discovered that the gun matched casings recovered at the scene of the shootout.
It’s unclear how many other suspects police are still searching for.
