Police: Hialeah toddler found, mother taken into custody

Cassidy Mills, 1, fell out of mother’s vehicle Thursday night, police say

HIALEAH, Fla. – A 1-year-old girl from Hialeah was located Friday after disappearing with her mother Thursday night, authorities confirmed to Local 10 News.

Police said Cassidy Mills was found in Opa-locka and is heading to a hospital to be evaluated.

Her mother, Tasshay Mills, 29, was taken into custody in Miramar and will be transported back to Miami-Dade County, authorities said, adding that charges are pending.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a Missing Child Alert Friday morning for Cassidy after she was last seen around 8:30 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Northwest 37th Avenue and 54th Street.

Hialeah police confirmed to Local 10 that Cassidy fell out of a moving vehicle that her mother was driving.

“A concerned witness, who observed the child alone, crying, and appearing injured, immediately intervened by securing the child and contacting law enforcement for assistance,” a news release from the police department stated. “While the witness was on the phone with authorities, Ms. Mills returned to the scene, forcibly took the child from the witness, and left without providing any further information.”

Police said Mills refused to return to the scene once again after police arrived and did not take her child to the hospital to be evaluated.

Cassidy is now in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families, along with a second baby that also belongs to Mills.
