Body cam video released from day twins left for dead along I-95; mother charged

Prosecutors also release autopsy results

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Newly-released body camera video shows officers responding to the Interstate 95 overpass near the Golden Glades on Feb. 2 shortly after 42-year-old Shirlene Alcime jumped off the bridge, trying to end her own life.

Her 3-year-old twins were left for dead in her SUV, foaming at the mouth. They were rushed to the hospital and later pronounced dead, victims of a disturbing homicide.

Alcime pleaded not guilty to child neglect charges on Feb. 27. Now 43, she’s since been charged with manslaughter.

In the videos from two responding officers, you can see them rushing down a hill, getting to Alcime near the railroad tracks, with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue also arriving at the scene.

In interviews with detectives, Alcime, of North Miami Beach, would not tell detectives what substances were given to the children.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office also released an autopsy report showing the fraternal twin toddlers tested positive in heart and vein samples for naloxone and griseofulvin, a medication used to treat opioid overdose and a substance used to treat fungus and ringworm.

Alcime remained held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Friday.
