Marlon Wayans speaks with Local 10 ahead of comedy shows at Dania Improv

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Local 10 News welcomed a familiar face Thursday morning as comedian and actor Marlon Wayans brought his signature humor and energy to the Fresh Daily morning show.

Wayans, who’s in town to perform at the Dania Beach Improv from Friday to Sunday, entertained Local 10 viewers with his quick wit and laid-back charm.

“I thought I was just coming here to answer a few questions and now I’m working!” Wayans joked as he sat down with Local 10′s Alexis Frazier. “I feel good to be back in South Florida, though. Always good to be back. It’s way better than North Florida — I don’t even know where that is!”

Wayans, who is widely known for his roles in films like White Chicks and Scary Movie, is no stranger to making audiences laugh with his sharp, observational humor.

Wayans promoted his upcoming shows at the Improv and spoke about his latest stand-up work, including his recent Amazon Prime special Good Grief.

But in true Marlon Wayans fashion, he couldn’t resist adding a little flair to the conversation. “You know, when I drop a special, I retire the set,” he said, explaining that his upcoming performances will feature fresh material. “I did it, I said it, and I leave it there. Now I’m working on a whole new hour. This new set is fire, man— getting a lot of standing ovations.”

Wayans shared that he’s in a creative flow, writing and performing more than ever.

“I’m in this place of absolute clarity and expression,” he said. “I just want to keep dropping albums, you know?”

Wayans also made it clear he has a special place in his heart for South Florida.

“It’s good people, great weather, beautiful women — what’s not to love?” he said with a grin.

In addition to his stand-up, Wayans also touched on some other ventures. He joked about his love for cigars, mentioning a local cigar event he was planning to attend.

“I’ve got my own cigar company, Legal Trident Cigars, so I’m all about it,” he added.

While speaking with Wayans, Frazier couldn’t resist bringing up a piece of Wayans’ family history — the 35th anniversary of In Living Color.

The sketch show, which became a cultural phenomenon in the early ‘90s, was the launchpad for Wayans and his siblings, who helped create some of the most iconic characters in comedy.

When asked about the possibility of a reunion, Wayans didn’t confirm any plans but left the door open.

“Thirty-five years? Man, I didn’t know it had been that long. I’m only 23!” he joked. “I hope we do something for the fans. It’s a classic, and I’m just proud to be part of it. Hopefully, we all put something together.”

While a reunion isn’t in the works yet, Wayans’ fans can still catch him performing live. His current set, which he’s been touring across the country, continues to bring in rave reviews. “It’s just fun to be out there making people laugh,” he said. “I love what I do and I hope y’all come out to see me.”

Wayans’ visit to the Improv in Dania Beach promises to be a night full of laughs, with fresh material and a few surprises along the way.

And for fans of his classic characters like Shorty from Scary Movie, Wayans hasn’t forgotten the roles that made him a household name.

“Shorty’s still out there, loving life and cigars,” he said with a wink.

Before wrapping up the segment, Wayans reflected on his recent projects, including a popular interview with NFL star Shannon Sharpe.

“I feel blessed,” he said, taking a more serious tone for a moment. “I’ve had a lot of great opportunities, and I just want to keep making people laugh.”

Fans can catch Wayans at the Dania Improv from Friday to Sunday for what he says is sure to be an “unforgettable experience.”
