DANIA BEACH, Fla. ā Local 10 News welcomed a familiar face Thursday morning as comedian and actor Marlon Wayans brought his signature humor and energy to the Fresh Daily morning show.
Wayans, whoās in town to perform at the Dania Beach Improv from Friday to Sunday, entertained Local 10 viewers with his quick wit and laid-back charm.
āI thought I was just coming here to answer a few questions and now Iām working!ā Wayans joked as he sat down with Local 10ā²s Alexis Frazier. āI feel good to be back in South Florida, though. Always good to be back. Itās way better than North Florida ā I donāt even know where that is!ā
Wayans, who is widely known for his roles in films like White Chicks and Scary Movie, is no stranger to making audiences laugh with his sharp, observational humor.
Wayans promoted his upcoming shows at the Improv and spoke about his latest stand-up work, including his recent Amazon Prime special Good Grief.
But in true Marlon Wayans fashion, he couldnāt resist adding a little flair to the conversation. āYou know, when I drop a special, I retire the set,ā he said, explaining that his upcoming performances will feature fresh material. āI did it, I said it, and I leave it there. Now Iām working on a whole new hour. This new set is fire, manā getting a lot of standing ovations.ā
Wayans shared that heās in a creative flow, writing and performing more than ever.
āIām in this place of absolute clarity and expression,ā he said. āI just want to keep dropping albums, you know?ā
Wayans also made it clear he has a special place in his heart for South Florida.
āItās good people, great weather, beautiful women ā whatās not to love?ā he said with a grin.
In addition to his stand-up, Wayans also touched on some other ventures. He joked about his love for cigars, mentioning a local cigar event he was planning to attend.
āIāve got my own cigar company, Legal Trident Cigars, so Iām all about it,ā he added.
While speaking with Wayans, Frazier couldnāt resist bringing up a piece of Wayansā family history ā the 35th anniversary of In Living Color.
The sketch show, which became a cultural phenomenon in the early ā90s, was the launchpad for Wayans and his siblings, who helped create some of the most iconic characters in comedy.
When asked about the possibility of a reunion, Wayans didnāt confirm any plans but left the door open.
āThirty-five years? Man, I didnāt know it had been that long. Iām only 23!ā he joked. āI hope we do something for the fans. Itās a classic, and Iām just proud to be part of it. Hopefully, we all put something together.ā
While a reunion isnāt in the works yet, Wayansā fans can still catch him performing live. His current set, which heās been touring across the country, continues to bring in rave reviews. āItās just fun to be out there making people laugh,ā he said. āI love what I do and I hope yāall come out to see me.ā
Wayansā visit to the Improv in Dania Beach promises to be a night full of laughs, with fresh material and a few surprises along the way.
And for fans of his classic characters like Shorty from Scary Movie, Wayans hasnāt forgotten the roles that made him a household name.
