Authorities said the man, later identified as Andre Donovan Jarrett, 51, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle, a 61-year-old man from Lauderdale Lakes, remained at the scene.

Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesman Carey Codd said the 2016 Toyota Corolla was heading south on North State Road 7, approaching the intersection of West Commercial Boulevard and “entered the outside designated left turn lane.”

“As the driver proceeded southbound, he did not see the pedestrian and struck him within the left turn lane,” Codd wrote in a news release. “The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.”

BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash.
