Police release sketch of man who tried kidnapping teen girl at gunpoint

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Police in Broward County are searching for a man who they believe tried to kidnap a 15-year-old girl at gunpoint.

That girl was able to get away unharmed and was able to describe the man to police, who have created a sketch.

Police said the man in the sketch was behind the wheel of a grey sedan captured on surveillance video Thursday just before 7 a.m.

In the video, the car pulls up behind the girl, who was walking to school.

That’s when deputies say the man told the girl to get in his car. The girl declined and continued to walk westbound on Northwest 12th Court near Second Avenue.

After the girl didn’t get in the car, deputies say the man pulled beside her and pointed a gun at her and demanded again that she get in the car.

Deputies said the girl ran off after she saw the gun while the man behind the wheel fled eastbound.

The man is described as between the age of 20 and 35 and at the time of the incident he had facial hair and was wearing a white tank top and black gym shorts.

Broward Sheriff’s deputies and neighbors in the area are hoping the sketch leads to tips that can help them track the man down.

Anyone with information or who thinks they might recognize him are urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
