Video shows search for woman after ATV falls into Miami-Dade canal

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Two women riding an ATV fell into a canal on Thursday afternoon in Miami-Dade County. Only one survived.

A witness’s video shows how Good Samaritans and fire rescue personnel worked together to pull the two women out of the murky water near Southwest 112 Street and 157 Avenue.

Natalia Delgado said her boyfriend Dennis Padilla and two minors heard the commotion and ran to the canal behind their home. The Padillas used a ladder to help rescue the survivor.

“She was screaming, ‘My prima, my prima, my prima,’” Delgado said. “My prima” is Spanish for “My cousin!”

The Good Samaritans also jumped into the canal to search for the woman who did not survive.

“We were looking and we could barely see anything under the water,” Delgado said. “Everything happened so fast.”

Fire rescue personnel treated one woman at the scene and took the other to be hospitalized. A doctor later pronounced her dead at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital.
