Man fatally shot ex-wife before turning gun on self in Pompano Beach, deputies say

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A man shot and killed his ex-wife before turning the gun on himself in Pompano Beach on Thursday afternoon, the Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed Friday.

Authorities said they responded to a shooting call just before 12:30 p.m. around Pier Street and Seabreeze Way.

Upon arrival, deputies said they found Yadviga McConville, whose age was disclosed due to Marsy’s law, dead at the scene. They also confirmed 44-year-old Sergey Moiseenko, of Fort Lauderdale, was transported to Broward Health North, where he also died from gunshot wounds.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that Moiseenko shot the victim before turning the gun on himself,” BSO wrote in a press release on Friday.

Court records show McConville was Moiseenko’s wife until the former couple filed for divorce in 2020. However, multiple motions were filed in the year following the divorce. All records have since been marked “confidential.”

Cellphone video obtained by Local 10 News on Thursday captured the aftermath, showing Moiseenko being taken away on a stretcher, while McConville’s body was covered by a yellow tarp near a pier.

“It just sounded like firecrackers going off,” a witness told Local 10′s Janine Stanwood.

A worker at a restaurant nearby said the shooting occurred around 11 a.m., shortly after the couple had entered a business visibly upset.

“The woman walked out, stormed off and the man followed — possibly with a bag,” the worker said. “Five seconds later, gunshots rang out.”

The normally busy neighborhood was left stunned by the violence.

“It’s a neighborhood — usually vibrant and busy — but nothing like this,” said a Pompano Beach resident. “We’re shaken up. I don’t know how to feel right now.”

Detectives have not disclosed a motive at this time.

In a statement to Local 10 News on Friday, McConville’s family said they are “devastated” and asked for privacy at this time.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
