FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Jamaican-American singer and rapper Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, appeared in federal court once again on Thursday.
The mother and son didn’t run away from Local 10′s cameras this time, but they did not offer any comment on the federal wire fraud charges they are facing.
The duo had their first status hearing Thursday and a trial date has now been set.
Kingston, whose legal name is Kisean Anderson, and his mother are scheduled to go on trial on March 29, 2025.
At their arraignment earlier this week, the two pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud charges. They asked for a jury trial.
The two are accused of sending fake documents as proof that wire transfers had been completed and then keeping over $1 million dollars’ worth of items like cars, watches and electronics.
Federal prosecutors have until Oct. 1 to go over all of the evidence seized from Kingston’s Southwest Ranches home back in May.
One of the items seized was Turner’s cellphone, which defense attorneys are asking to have returned.
While leaving the courthouse Thursday, Kingston and his mother had no comment for us, but we did speak to one of their attorneys, Bob Rosenblatt.
“Nothing new. You know, the presumption of innocence still attaches, and we’re looking forward to reviewing the government’s evidence, and we’ll make some conclusions based on that,” he said.
While Thursday’s hearing was for their federal case, the two are also facing state charges for grand theft stemming from the five federal wire fraud counts.
