BSO: Man, woman dead in apparent murder-suicide near Pompano Beach pier

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after responding to a shooting call in Pompano Beach Thursday afternoon, authorities confirmed.

The incident was reported near Pier Street and Seabreeze Way, according to BSO.

Upon arrival, medics found two people with gunshot wounds; a woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and a man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he also died, investigators said.

Cellphone video captured the aftermath, showing a man being taken away on a stretcher, while a woman’s body was covered by a yellow tarp near a pier.

BSO detectives were also seen photographing the area and focusing on a car parked nearby.

“It just sounded like firecrackers going off,” a witness told Local 10′s Janine Stanwood.

A worker at a restaurant nearby said the shooting occurred around 11 a.m., shortly after the couple had entered a business visibly upset.

“The woman walked out, stormed off and the man followed — possibly with a bag,” the worker said. “Five seconds later, gunshots rang out.”

The normally busy neighborhood was left stunned by the violence.

“It’s a neighborhood — usually vibrant and busy — but nothing like this,” said a Pompano Beach resident. “We’re shaken up. I don’t know how to feel right now.”

Detectives have not disclosed the man or woman’s ages or identities and a motive remains unclear at this time,
