MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A northwest Miami-Dade woman was arrested Tuesday after police said she assaulted her 15-year-old stepson with a knife during an argument that allegedly stemmed over house keys.
According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Police Department, the incident occurred at the family’s home, located near the 4500 block of Northwest 23rd Avenue, where a verbal argument between the pair escalated into a fight around 3 p.m.

The victim told police that the dispute began when he refused to give his stepmother, who police identified as 36-year-old Kattie Denise Williams, the keys to their home.
Police said as tensions rose, Williams reached into her stepson’s pockets in an attempt to forcibly retrieve the keys.
After the victim continued to resist giving her the keys, Williams allegedly struck him multiple times on the back of his head, back and chest, police said.
The victim confessed to police that he struck his stepmother back in self-defense, according to the woman’s arrest report.
As the fight continued, investigators said the woman armed herself with a kitchen knife and attempted to stab the victim, saying, “I’m going to kill you,” police wrote in the report.
During the struggle for the knife, investigators said the victim sustained a minor cut on his right thumb while trying to disarm Williams.
Fearing for his safety, police said the victim ran out of the house and sought refuge at a nearby 7-Eleven convenience store. Witnesses at the store confirmed that the woman followed him there and continued to make threats, even brandishing the knife outside the store, according to police.
When police arrived, they found Williams still at the scene, the report stated.
Police said they apprehended Williams and conducted a records check, which revealed an outstanding warrant for her arrest for a separate case. The warrant was verified by police before she was taken into custody and transported to the MDPD’s Northside Police Station.
After being read her Miranda rights, the woman claimed she was not the primary aggressor in the incident, according to detectives.
Authorities confirmed the victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene and did not require further medical attention.
Jail records show Williams is facing one count each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and child abuse without great bodily harm.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Williams was also being held on a bench warrant at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center for the separate case. Her bond information for Tuesday’s incident has not yet been determined.
