Brightline train crashes into unmarked BSO vehicle on tracks in Dania Beach

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – A Brightline train crashed into an unmarked Broward Sheriff’s Office vehicle Wednesday that was on the tracks in Dania Beach, authorities confirmed.

Sky 10 was above the scene on Northwest First Street and Fourth Avenue around 12:30 p.m. as the damaged SUV remained on the side of the tracks.

According to BSO spokesman Carey Codd, the accident was reported around 12:12 p.m.

“The preliminary investigation reveals that a Brightline train struck an unmarked BSO vehicle. Paramedics transported the BSO deputy who was driving the vehicle to Broward Health Medical Center with minor injuries,” Codd said in an email to Local 10 News.

It’s unclear why the SUV was in the train’s path as it was coming through.

Codd said Dania Beach District deputies are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

No other details were immediately released.
