HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A Homestead man has been arrested after police said he fired 23 rounds from multiple guns while in a residential area early Sunday morning, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

Homestead police said officers were dispatched to a neighborhood in Homestead after a ShotSpotter activation detected a total of 23 rounds fired. The location of the neighborhood was redacted in the publicly released arrest report.

Upon arrival, police said they discovered 18 shell casings in a parking lot and observed damage to the exterior walls and windows of several apartments, including bullet holes through windows and into interior walls and furniture.

According to investigators, surveillance video footage showed the suspect, who they identified as 22-year-old Tony Darnell Evans, “recklessly displaying two semi-automatic firearms while on the second floor of a building.”

Police said Evans was then seen descending to the first floor, where he approached the victim with two guns visible in the front pockets of his pants.

Shortly after, an argument broke out between the two in the courtyard and escalated when police said Evans struck the victim in the head with the butt of a gun, causing a laceration to the victim’s forehead.

The video footage, which was recorded on CCTV, captured Evans running into his apartment with both guns in hand, investigators said.

Authorities said officers prepared photographic lineups, and both the victim and a witness positively identified Evans as the suspect involved in the incident and provided sworn written statements to Homestead police.

A special response team with the Miami-Dade Police Department executed a search warrant at Evans’ residence, where he was found and arrested, the report stated.

While inside the residence, officers said they recovered four semi-automatic firearms, a .223 rifle, a 50-round drum, a 100-round drum, three .223 round magazines, a .223 bullet, nine 9mm bullets, two extended magazines and four 9mm magazines. All items were impounded as evidence, according to investigators.

Evans was subsequently taken to the Homestead Police Department for questioning but refused to speak with detectives, according to the report.

Jail records show he is facing one count each of aggravated battery with a firearm or deadly weapon causing bodily harm and improper exhibition of a weapon or firearm.

As of Tuesday, Evans is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond has not yet been determined.
