MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A Miami man was criminally charged last Friday, more than two years after he shot two people during a road rage incident on Florida’s Turnpike, authorities said.
Jermaine Marquan Jackson, 30, faces charges of attempted murder, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, shooting or throwing a deadly missile and improper exhibition of a firearm.

According to his arrest report, the shooting occurred around 1 p.m. on Jan. 11, 2022, in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike at the Golden Glades Interchange.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a man was driving a blue 2013 Honda Civic when he said a silver Chevrolet sedan tried to cut him off.
“When the victim didn’t let the Chevrolet into his lane, the driver of the Chevrolet drove up next to his vehicle on the emergency shoulder and fired 1-2 rounds from out of the passenger window,” FHP Lt. Alex Camacho told Local 10 News in an email at the time.
According to Camacho, the driver and his passenger, a woman, were both shot.
He said after the shooting, the man drove to the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Northside District Headquarters and informed an officer that he and his girlfriend had been shot.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue then responded and transported the victims to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Camacho said the driver had been shot in his right forearm and his girlfriend was shot in her left arm.
According to the arrest report, detectives first identified the Chevy that was involved in the incident and its tag, which helped them link Jackson to the crime.
Troopers said Jackson was pulled over and initially arrested for driving with a suspended license.
Authorities said he made a spontaneous statement, however that statement was redacted from the publicly released report.
According to the report, Jackson was not immediately charged in connection with the shooting due to “analysis of further evidence.”
Authorities said one of the victims later identified Jackson in a photo lineup as the person who had shot him.
Troopers said records from a nearby cellphone tower show Jackson’s cellphone was near the scene at the time of the shooting.
According to the report, there were multiple attempts made to arrest Jackson, but those attempts were unsuccessful.
“On August 22, 2024, I was requested by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office to complete forms that were missing pending the warrant requested in 2022 for the defendant,” the arrest report states. “Upon searching for the SID and FBI number to complete the forms, I came across an attempted murder arrest for the defendant in January 2024 by the Miami-Dade Police Department.”
Authorities said they learned Jackson was still in jail for that arrest, and charges were filed for the road rage incident on Friday.
As of Monday, Jackson remained held at the Metrowest Detention Center without bond.
