ISLAMORADA, Fla. – Deputies arrested a Florida Keys man after they said two good Samaritans found his young child wandering alongside the Overseas Highway just before midnight Saturday.

Bradley Andrew Mullis, 39, of Islamorada, is facing a child neglect charge.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the two bystanders saw the toddler wearing pajamas along U.S. 1 at mile marker 81, near Mullis’ home, and “prevented the child from running into the street.”

The child wasn’t hurt, MCSO spokesperson Adam Linhardt said.

Deputies said they identified Mullis as the child’s father and went to his home, which “revealed he was not present and the front door was open.”

Mullis arrived soon after, Linhardt said, and “his story changed concerning why he was not present.”

MCSO records show Mullis was released from jail late Sunday morning.
