Battalion Chief Michael Kane, a Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesperson, said the leak was “in or near” the school’s cafeteria.

He said the person taken to the hospital, for “evaluation,” was a school employee.

No one else was injured or sickened. Units were clearing the scene at around 9:30 a.m., he said.

A Broward County Public Schools spokesperson said staff evacuated the school briefly as a “precaution,” but resumed normal activities after “a thorough inspection” which led the school to be “deemed safe for students and staff to return to their classrooms.”
