MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Amazon responded to the recent arrest of one of their drivers for a hit-and-run crash injuring a baby and his mother in Miami-Dade County’s Ives Estates neighborhood.

According to the police arrest report in the case, Sarahy Parra-Ovalles was driving a 2022 Hyundai and wearing an Amazon vest on Thursday morning when she entered the Aventura Isles Estates community.

Parra-Ovalles, 45, later struck a mother, who was pushing a stroller with her 4-month-old son and walking a dog, at Northeast 191 Street and Seventh Avenue. Video and witness accounts are evidence in the case, according to police.

“This is a terrible incident and our thoughts are with this family. We’re looking into the matter and will support law enforcement as they investigate,” Amazon spokesperson Steve Kelly wrote in a statement sent to Local 10 News on Saturday night. “The driver in question is no longer delivering on behalf of Amazon.”

According to the arrest report, Parra-Ovalles showed her driver’s license to a security guard who recorded her presence at the gate at Northeast 199 Street and Third Court.

After the hit-and-run crash, a witness reported that Parra-Ovalles got out of the sports utility vehicle, ran toward the mother to help her pick up the stroller and the baby — and drove away.

A neighbor who works as a registered nurse provided first aid before Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel arrived to find the baby had suffered a laceration to his forehead. His mother suffered a head injury and was at Memorial Regional Hospital, police said.

Miami-Dade police officers arrested Parra-Ovalles on Friday and she appeared in bond court on Saturday to face two counts of leaving the scene of a crash with bodily injury. Her bond was $7,500.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
