Detectives identify 2 in murder-suicide that left 3 children orphaned in Miami-Dade

Detectives investigate family tragedy at Westview home

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Marcos Antonio Gonzalez no longer lived with his three children and their mother.

The Gonzalez kids, ages 9, 13, and 15, had witnessed how their father’s relationship with their mother, Raiza Cajuso, devolved into a separation. On Saturday, detectives said the kids also experienced the fatal domestic violence that followed in Miami-Dade County.

“One of the children of the two decedents was transported to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital,” Detective Andre Martin, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, said Saturday adding, “the juvenile” was at the hospital as a precaution.

Martin said detectives suspect Gonzalez fatally shot Cajuso in the chest before taking his own life shortly before 8:35 a.m., on Saturday, in Miami-Dade’s Westview neighborhood. MDPD released the identities of the two dead on Sunday.

Gonzalez had just marked his 40th birthday on Aug. 9. Cajuso turned 39 in June.

The tragic crime scene was in the three-bedroom home that property records show the Cajuso family has owned since 1987 near the corner of West Randall Park Drive and Northwest 124 Terrace. There was another adult in the house that police did not publicly identify.

“We were able to locate a firearm on the scene,” Martin said Friday.

Martin also released a message to the community about domestic violence.

“We encourage anyone who is in any sort of domestic relationship that has turned or they think may turn violent to seek resources,” Martin said. “Domestic violence injunctions are a very useful tool to try to address concerns.”

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 to remain anonymous.
