Amazon driver facing felony charges after striking mother pushing infant in stroller, leaving the scene

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – An Amazon delivery driver is facing charges after police said she struck a mother and her infant with her vehicle and then took off.

It happened on Thursday in the area of Northeast 191st Street and Seventh Avenue at approximately 8:20 a.m.

According to police, 45-year-old Sarahy Parra-Ovalles was seen on surveillance video driving her Hyundai SUV inside the Aventura Isles Estates.

Police said Parra-Ovalles was seen striking the victim, who was pushing a stroller with her four-month-old child inside and walking her dog.

Parra-Ovalles got out of her vehicle, set the knocked over stroller upright, picked up the infant off the road and placed it inside the stroller before leaving the scene, police said.

Authorities said the victim suffered a skull fracture, bruising and a brain bleed while the infant suffered a laceration to his forehead. Both were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment, police said.

Through investigative methods, authorities said they were able to track down Parra-Ovalles and ask her to respond to Miami-Dade Police Department’s Intracoastal District Station for questioning, which she did on Friday.

Police said Parra-Ovalles waived her Miranda rights but did not admit to striking the victim. After being shown video of the incident, police said Parra-Ovalles “denied the accident and shortly thereafter invoked her rights.”

She was arrested and is facing multiple felony charges.

There has been no update on the health status of the victims.
