Suspected South Florida serial burglar faces judge

MIAMI – Police say Keomie Kenyard Johnson is a serial burglar.

The 37-year-old North Miami man is facing a slew of burglary charges and more stemming from several cases in Miami, Coral Gables and unincorporated Miami-Dade.

He had his first appearance in front of the judge on these new charges Thursday.

Johnson stood with his arms crossed and his head down as the judge went over the documents.

Among the allegations, Johnson is accused of breaking into and stealing from a room at The Palmer near Dadeland while those inside were sleeping.

The judge noted, “He went into somebody’s residence and into their suite at 4 a.m., ransacked, and stole $1,200 and three credit cards. The victims were home asleep during the burglary.”

Johnson is also accused of unlawfully entering the Ponce Towers in Coral Gables, where he was seen in a parking garage and attempting to stop on multiple floors.

He was eventually found by security in the mailroom.

“The security guard confronts him, and he exits through the west side door,” the judge said. “He was holding a mail package valued at a dollar. I guess they have good security there, which is good.”

In addition, Johnson was accused of a car burglary in Coconut Grove.

Police eventually caught up with him at a Dick’s Sporting Goods, where they say he had a stolen credit card.

He was already out on bond for a prior burglary case when he picked up these new charges.

Johnson remains held in the Pre-Trial Detention Center as of Thursday.
