Miami-Dade police assist feds in search for prisoner escapee near Krome Detention Center

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police assisted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in a search for a prisoner escapee Thursday morning near the Krome Detention Center in the western portion of the county, law enforcement officials confirmed.

Authorities were seen setting up a command post near the federal immigration detention facility, located near Krome Avenue and Southwest Eighth Street.

According to ICE spokesman Nestor Yglesias, a detainee escaped from the U.S. ICE Krome Detention Center just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

There was at least one school on a partial lockdown Thursday in the area. That was at Pinecrest Glades Academy, located off Southwest Eighth Street and 152nd Avenue.

At last check Thursday, authorities were still focused on the marshy area surrounding the facility.

ICE has not specified whether the search would continue overnight.
