Argument over social media posts preceded fatal shooting in Broward, detectives say

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Detectives said an argument over social media posts preceded an 18-year-old man’s decision to shoot his 17-year-old girlfriend’s 44-year-old father in Broward County.

Lawan Jones was accused of shooting Keith B. Poole, shortly before 4:45 p.m., Monday, outside of the Poole’s family home at 1585 NE 28 St., in Pompano Beach’s Cresthaven neighborhood.

Jones, who turns 19 in September, ran away with his girlfriend, Jessie Poole. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue personnel took Keith Poole to Broward Health North, where a doctor later declared him dead.

Records show Broward Sheriff’s Office correctional deputies booked Jones Wednesday at the main jail. On Thursday, Jones decided not to appear in Broward County bond court.

Jones is facing one count of first-degree murder with a firearm. Deputies announced Jessie Poole was back with her family Wednesday.

Detectives asked anyone with information about the case to call Detective Steve Novak at 954-321-4325 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 to remain anonymous.
