LAUDERHILL, Fla. – A fire erupted Wednesday morning inside the SWAP Shop in Lauderhill, first responders confirmed.
According to Lauderhill Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Levy, the fire was reported shortly after 7 a.m. at the SWAP Shop, located at 3291 W. Sunrise Blvd.
“Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the second floor of the building and quickly made entry,” Levy said in an email to Local 10 News. “Once they made entry they encountered moderate smoke conditions and found that the fire sprinkler system was activated and contained the fire to one vendor booth.”
Levy said the fire was quickly extinguished, but firefighters still had to face the challenge of getting the smoke out of the large building.
“Crews worked for a few hours utilizing multiple firefighting ventilation fans,” he said. “Due to the size of the structure the smoke was not clearing and unconventional firefighting methods needed to be utilized.”
Levy said the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded to the scene with an airboat on a trailer and firefighters used it to get the smoke out of the building.
The Lauderhill Fire Marshal and State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
No injuries were reported.
Levy said the main building of the SWAP Shop remained closed, as of 11:30 a.m.
