MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A teenager is now facing an additional charge of leaving the scene of a crash that police said left a motorcyclist dead in northwest Miami-Dade in late July.

Jail records show Brayan Carmona, 17, was initially charged with one count each of organizing a drag race on a highway or streetway and leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury, in connection with a crash that occurred on July 28.

Miami-Dade police said at approximately 5:21 a.m., officers observed a 2014 red Mercedes-Benz C250 performing a maneuver commonly known as a “donut” on Northwest 72nd Avenue.

After completing the maneuver, authorities said the vehicle continued southbound on Northwest 72nd Avenue before making a right turn onto Northwest 12th Street, heading west.

Police said they conducted a traffic stop on the car and noticed significant damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle Carmona was driving, with the airbags deployed.

Shortly after investigating the vehicle, police said a witness informed them that the car had previously been involved in a crash with a motorcycle, leaving two victims lying on the roadway, according to the report.

The witness also stated that the driver had fled the scene after striking the motorcycle shortly before the second crash was reported, police said.

Investigators said after backup was requested, two victims — a male and a female — who were not publicly identified by authorities, were found on Northwest 72nd Avenue, but the motorcycle was no longer at the scene.

Police said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported both victims to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where the motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at 10:16 a.m. The passenger was listed in critical condition.

Police also stated that Carmona did not inform them of the previous crash or attempt to render aid at the scene.

Authorities did not disclose what happened to the motorcycle that was allegedly involved in the crash.

Jail records show Carmona remained at the Metrowest Detention Center as of Monday, where his bond for the new charge had not yet been determined.
