Family grieves after toddler drowns in Miami-Dade park’s lake

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A family was grieving Sunday after a 3-year-old girl drowned at Amelia Earhart Park in Miami-Dade County.

It was supposed to be a fun Saturday at 401 E. 65 St., near Hialeah and Opa-locka. The girl vanished, and after a search involving park rangers, they learned she had made it into a freshwater lake.

Fire rescue personnel took her to the Palmetto General Hospital, at 2001 W. 68 St., where a doctor pronounced her dead. Police officers were investigating the incident.
