Miami-Dade police said the victims told responding officers that they were heading north on 26th Avenue from Ives Dairy Road in a Tesla when the suspect, Brian Scott Heffren, 47, of Miami, pulled out a silver gun and tried to shoot them.

According to the report, the officers reviewed the Tesla’s CCTV footage which showed Heffren inside of a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee, pointing a gun at the victims and trying to pull the trigger at least three times.

Police said Heffren was arrested Thursday on a charge of attempted second-degree murder.

The events leading up to the attempted shooting were not disclosed in the arrest report.

As of Friday afternoon, Heffren was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond.
