Fire erupts inside mobile home in northwest Miami-Dade; at least 1 dead

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – First responders rushed to the scene of a fire Thursday night in northwest Miami-Dade County.

It happened inside the Palm Lake Mobile Home Park near Northwest 76th Street and 27th Avenue.

Video taken by neighbors and obtained by Local 10 News shows one of the mobile homes on fire.

According to residents, an elderly couple lives in the mobile home and the wife is confined to a wheelchair.

Miami-Dade police confirmed that the man was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, while the wife died from her injuries.

The husband’s brother told Local 10 News that they have lived at the home for more than 20 years.

He identified his brother as Frank Pineda, who he said never left anything on in the house.

He said he doesn’t know how the fire may have started, but said someone told him it could have been started by someone else.

Neighbors said the husband was a mechanic, who kept a lot of things in his home.

They also told Local 10 News that the couple was very nice and they were saddened by what happened.

In June, a press conference was held to discuss the mass evictions of residents at the mobile home park amid the affordable housing crisis.

Residents also complained about “unsanitary sewage conditions” at the property that they say has been ongoing since 2009.

Neighbors told Local 10 Friday that the owner of the mobile home park had told them they all have to leave as soon as possible.
