Crime spree caught on camera near Fort Lauderdale Beach leaves businesses on edge

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Businesses are on alert after workers reported that a crime spree was caught on camera along busy Fort Lauderdale Beach on Monday.

A man is first seen in the surveillance video entering Wine Garden, located near Terramar Street and Breaker Avenue, just after midnight.

The culprit then appeared to put on black gloves and began pulling surveillance cameras. Employees said he then targeted a realty business attached to the restaurant.

“He takes computers, he takes cameras,” said Alfredo Aldana, who works in the area.

Employees at Fort Lauderdale Beach Group, which borders the restaurant, said the culprit entered the business through a bathroom window.

He is seen on surveillance video inside the business taking down additional surveillance cameras, before bagging two monitors and a computer at the shop.

“He walked to the location where we have our router to disconnect the WiFi,” said employee Johana Nieto.

After rummaging through the business and even changing clothes, the man is seen leaving and stealing a golf cart in the area, which he crashes almost immediately, according to employees.

Area workers said that they had seen this man before and need help making this stop. Several area workers reported the man had tried to steal in the past.

“I always see him in the neighborhood,” said Aldana. “It was like the third time when I saw him so when I saw him on the video, I said ‘Oh, my God.”

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
